Pet Blessing Sunday — Everyone Is Welcome

Pet BlessinOn Saturday, September 29, we at North Kildonan United Church will be joining with animal lovers around the world in the annual practice of “Blessing the Animals.” Every year, “Blessing of the Animals” services occur in conjunction with World Animal Day, an international day of action that began in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence, Italy, to highlight the plight of endangered species and in remembrance of the great love and respect for animals, and indeed of all creation, of St. Francis of Assisi — the patron saint of peace, ecology, and animals, whose feast day is traditionally held on October 4.Animals of all kinds and those who care for them are welcome. If you are not able to physically bring your pet along, bring a photo. You are also welcome to bring a along a stuffed toy. In addition, we will also be offering prayers of thanksgiving and remembrance for pets who have died.

During our worship service on Sunday, September 30, we will be remembering the life and work of Francis of Assisi, and encouraging children of all ages to bring their stuffed animals along.
