We at North Kildonan United Church will be joining with animal lovers around the world on Saturday, Oct. 3, 11 a.m., in the annual practice of “Blessing the Animals.”
Every year, “Blessing of the Animals” services occur the first weekend of October in conjunction with World Animal Day, (observed Oct. 4) as an international day of action that began in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence, Italy, to highlight the plight of endangered species, and in remembrance of the great love and respect for animals, and indeed of all creation, of St. Francis of Assisi the patron saint of peace, ecology, and animals.
Animals of all kinds and those who care for them are welcome. If you are not able to physically bring your pet along bring a photo. We will also be offering prayers of thanksgiving and remembrance for pets who have died.
