Outreach

North Kildonan United Church has a long history of reaching out to the larger community, both locally and globally.  In addition to the formal educational and advocacy work provided by our Outreach, Mission and Service Committee, and the congregation’s support of the National Church’s Mission and Service Fund, our people continue to try to make a difference in the world.

Our Sunday School, Youth Group, United Church Women’s Group, and Prayer Shawl Group each make a contribution to the larger good in a variey of ways, even as many individuals continue to offer their time and their resources to the various works  to which we believe God is calling us.

We are proud of being able to honour our ongoing commitments to Winnipeg Harvest, The Christmas Cheer Board, the West Broadway Community Ministry, and The Canadian Food Grains Bank. We value our deep relationships with the Riverview and Kildonan Personal Care Homes, and are grateful for our participation, through our Youth Group, in the Canadian Cancer Society’s “Cut for the Cure” and “Relay for Life” events.

Our Sunday School introduced us to the particular needs of an orphanage in the Domincan Republic and directed our involvement with that organization. We feel privileged to have been one of the first area congregations to become involved with the Healthy Breakfast Programme at Princess Margaret School and to have been able to continue to respond generously to emergent needs, such as the Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort, and Flood Relief in Pakistan.

In the past, we have helped to provide support to refugee families and collected books and clothing to be sent to northern reserves. We pray that we may always be open to becoming involved with the new things God is doing in our midst.

Below you will find more detailed descriptions of the various outreach projects with which we are currently involved.
