Welcome Back to Church Protocols

Greetings, everyone,

This coming Sunday, September 13th, we are planning to have our first formal in-person church service since we shut down for COVID-19 last spring. A test service, to help fine-tune our protocols, will be held Thursday, September 10, with a limited attendance.

There will be two in-person church services each week (Sundays at 10 am and Thursdays at 11 am). The Thursday service will also be recorded and available to watch online. If you haven’t already done so, and are planning to attend an in-person service, please let Wilma in the church office know which day you will be coming. Once you pick a day (Sunday or Thursday), please continue with that group rather than switching days.

Provincial pandemic protocols require that we maintain social distancing, so we can accommodate only a limited number of people at the church. We’ll send out a reminder each week, asking if you’re coming. Please let us know whether or not you’ll be there so we can plan the seating and get our numbers right.

To minimize the spread of COVID-19 as much as possible, we ask that you follow these rules.

  1. Please maintain social distancing at all times.
  2. When inside the building, wear a mask. (If you forget yours, one will be provided.)
  3. Sanitize hands upon entry.

Also, please remember that we need to look out for one another during this pandemic. Some of our members are elderly, some are frail, and some are immune-compromised.

So, one of the most important requirements is this:

  1. If you’re not feeling well, PLEASE STAY HOME. If you’ve recently travelled outside Manitoba and should be self-quarantining or are living with someone who is or should be self-quarantining, PLEASE STAY HOME. Please don’t risk the health of our fellow congregants.

The church service will be shorter and may not look exactly like what we’re used to, but the basic elements are there. We will pray together. We will listen to the scriptures and hear the sermon. We won’t sing (provincial guidelines) but there will be music. And we will be able to worship together with our church community.

Please be patient. Together, we can make this work.

God bless,

Heidi

Back to Church

As we prepare to return to worship on a limited basis, it will be necessary to pre-register if you wish to attend one of the worship services for the upcoming week.  We are obliged to limit our numbers within the sanctuary to ensure safe physical distancing.  Those with e-mail will be sent a reminder each week and those wishing to attend that week will need to reply by Wednesday for Thursday service and Friday for Sunday service

Those without e-mail who wish to attend will need to call Marvelle McPherson (663-6744) for Thursday service or

Peter Latimer (668-2501) for Sunday service.   More detailed information on our new procedures will follow.

Please email your intention to nkuc@mymts.net by Wednesday to attend Thursday’s service with recording.

Re-Opening the Church: Message to the Congregation

Greetings, everyone.
Last June, the board established a Return to Worship Committee to look at the timing and details of re-opening NKUC for worship services. After several months assessing the situation and considering various options, and after consultation with the NKUC Unified Board, the Committee feels that now is the time to, very cautiously, re-open in mid-September.
Our main priority is to provide as safe a worship experience as possible for everyone. This would include social distancing, sanitizing measures, and other Manitoba health protocols, possibly also facemasks for those members of the congregation who are able to wear them.
In-person services contribute significantly to our sense of community and connection with one another and with the Church. We miss coming to church and interacting with our church community, and we all want to return to the ‘old’ normal, but that’s not possible right now.
However, it is possible to safely move forward, with a limited re-opening. To ensure social distancing, we need to limit the number of people in the church at any one time. Therefore, we are planning to provide three options to accommodate as many people as possible:
1. A church service on Thursday mornings (for those available during the week)
2. A church service on Sunday mornings (for those not available on Thursdays, and for families), and
3. A weekly on-line church service (for those not comfortable with coming in person at this time).
We need your feedback.
Would you be interested in attending:
1) Thursday morning, or
2) Sunday morning, or
3) Prefer to continue watching the on-line service?
Please reply by email (nkuc@mymts.net) by August 25 so that we can start formulating concrete plans to make this work.
Thank you, everyone, and God bless!

Heidi McIlwain, Chair
NKUC Unified Board
