A food collection initiative
NKUC is supporting Operation Ezra, a joint collaboration of Jewish and Christian groups, and the only organized Yazidi rescue effort in North America. We’re also doing a food drive.
The Yazidis are one of the oldest religious and ethnic minorities in the world, living primarily in the Nineveh Province of Iraq. They have faced persecution for over 700 years because of their beliefs. Their population has been decimated from 23 million to approximately 700,000 today with approximately 500,000 scattered throughout Iraq; 100,000 in UNHCR camps in Syria and Turkey and 100,000 in Europe (mostly Germany). Please join us on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. for a wonderful concert by the B-Side Apostles — the duo of Larry Updike and Eric Boorman.
Larry Updike has been playing and singing country music all of his life. He is retired from a 40-year career in radio and is happy to be singing and enjoying the music that means so much to him.
Eric Boorman has travelled the world playing all styles of music for over 40 years but his favourite place is playing country music with Larry.
Tickets are $10 and snacks and refreshments will be served following the concert.
Please contact Barrie at 204-663-6744 for tickets.

On Saturday, September 29, we at North Kildonan United Church will be joining with animal lovers around the world in the annual practice of “Blessing the Animals.” Every year, “Blessing of the Animals” services occur in conjunction with World Animal Day, an international day of action that began in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence, Italy, to highlight the plight of endangered species and in remembrance of the great love and respect for animals, and indeed of all creation, of St. Francis of Assisi — the patron saint of peace, ecology, and animals, whose feast day is traditionally held on October 4.
