Lent is traditionally described as lasting for 40 days, in commemoration of the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert where he endured temptation by the devil. Many Christians commit to fasting, prayer, repentance of sins or giving up certain types of luxuries to symbolize this time in Jesus’s life. In preparation for this time before Easter, let us commit ourselves to giving up: racism, anger, violence, greed, weapons, war, poverty, homelessness. Pray for compassion. Pray for transformation. Pray for peace. Click here to download a pdf of the February 2016 The Spirit.

NKUC AGM Update
At the January 5th meeting of the Unified Board, a motion was passed "to postpone the Annual General Meeting to May 16, 2021, or potentially before that date, should
restrictions on gathering because of COVID-19 be lifted
and the NKUC Congregation is able to meet safely." This
decision was made in accordance with the recommendation of the General Council of the United Church of Canada that all congregations may consider postponing their AGM if necessary due to the pandemic.
The Unified Board will meet again in February to receive reports in preparation for the AGM after which the Financial Statement for 2020 and Budget for 2021 will be available for review (by email or by standard mail, upon request).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact
Heidi McIlwain, Chair, NKUC Unified Board.Knitters Wanted

Share Your Story
The NKUC web page would like to be a forum where members of the congregation can share stories with each other about their faith and a personal or spiritual experience. Our Webmaster, Aldo Santin, is prepared to help with editing and writing suggestions. Contact him with a submission at: nkucwebmaster@mymts.net* * * * *
Red River Co-Op
North Kildonan United Church has obtained a membership at Red River Co-op.
If you purchase gas at any of the Co-op service stations in the city and quote the following number -- 0323630 -- the dividends will be directed to the church, giving NKUC the revenue at the end of the year.* * * * *
Legacy Giving
At the 2010 annual meeting the congregation approved the creation of a Legacy Fund -- an alternative method of financially contributing to NKUC in addition to our weekly givings. However, the committee that oversees the fund has received few inquiries about how this works. We encourage you to look up the Legacy Giving page, located under the Programs button found in the black bar underneath the banner.* * * * *
Prayer Shawl
Our Prayer Shawl Ministry provides prayer shawls and pocket prayer squares to members of our congregation to give to those who need comfort and support for whatever reasons. They are made by ladies in our congregation with love, laughter and filled with prayers from our people. They are free to all. We do accept donations to help cover the cost of the wool. Please contact Peggy Latimer or ask anyone at church for assistance.* * * * *
Board Minutes Now Posted
A policy change adopted by General Council directs all congregations to post minutes of Unified Board meetings on their websites. The policy change went into effect for United Church congregations in mid-September 2016 and, as a result, NKUC is resuming the practice of posting these minutes. The minutes can be found by moving your cursor to the ABOUT button and then scrolling down and clicking on BOARD MINUTES or Click Here.Acknowledging Traditional Indigenous Territory & Metis Homeland
We acknowledge that long before settlers from other lands came to the territory where today we gather to worship, the people of Canada’s First Nations held this place as a sacred trust. Under the terms of Treaty One, we now share the responsibility of caring for the earth, and sky and water where, along with the Metis people of Manitoba, we pledge to create a sacred space of welcome where all might find a home.Questions or Comments about our Web page?
